STEPS TO TAKE BEFORE YOUR FIRST ONLINE SESSION
STEP 1: Please download the Zoom desktop application found by clicking here.
STEP 2: Set-up your display name as your first and last name.
- This will be saved for all future sessions on Zoom, which can always be updated in the future.
STEP 3: Set-up and test your computer audio settings.
- Please confirm that your computer microphone and speakers work properly and are compatible with your Zoom download. Should any technological difficulties arise, please have a cell phone available to put on speakerphone as a back-up to computer audio.
STEP 4: Pin Zoom to your taskbar by right clicking on the Zoom icon on your desktop.
- This allows you have to easy access to open and launch Zoom for your sessions.
HOW YOUR SESSIONS WILL WORK – Q&A
Q: How will I be contacted for each of my sessions?
A: Your tutor will E-MAIL the student with a session link for their session. All the student has to do is click on this session link, and the session will begin when both the student and tutor arrive.
- Due to occasional overlaps in session start and/or end times, we kindly ask all families to honor our “5-minute” flexibility policy for the start and end time of your student’s session.
Q: What tools will tutors and students have access to?
A: Zoom offers webcam and screen sharing. Additionally, there are writing and highlighting tools that allow for increased interaction with tutors and students as if they were in the physical office setting.
Q: What additional suggestions does A+ Skills have to optimize online tutoring experience?
A: First and foremost, be in an area of your home that has a strong, established Wi-Fi connection that will not be disrupted. Secondly, please ensure you are in a quiet room with as few to no distractions as possible, as this will optimize focus during your session.
Q: How do I know my session is confirmed on A+ Skills’ schedule?
A: Just like always, you will receive three session reminders (72, 48, and 24 hours in advance of each session you are scheduled for). Please continuously check your e-mails (both parents and students)!
Q: When do I need to cancel or reschedule a session by?
A: All cancellations must be submitted to cancellations@aplusskills.com no later than 48 hours in advance of your scheduled session, as per our normal cancellation policy. For more information on our cancellation policy, please click here.
